When we take our eyes off God, we turn them to other things. And often, the things we turn to aren’t fulfilling, they leave us yearning for more. We try to fill a void with something only He can fill.
More than 50% of Catholics believe the Eucharist is merely a symbol of Christ, according to a recent poll. The True Presence is a core belief of the Catholic faith, instituted by Christ during the Last Supper. When I joined the Church in 2012, my last hurdle in RCIA was the Eucharist. I had SUCH a difficult time accepting the True Presence, I couldn’t fathom how He was present in the wafer. In truth, I initially thought it was bizarre, and I really struggled with it.
It’s important that we evaluate what we allow into our lives, and prioritize what bring us closer to Christ. Otherwise, it’s a war between this world and the next, temporary satisfaction versus lasting joy, choosing to build a strong faith versus allowing ourselves to be swayed by the whims of the world.
Our worth is not measured in our productivity. Our day is not wasted if we haven’t finished our to do list or accomplished all the worldly things we wanted to. Rest is vital.
I joined the Church of my own volition, as an adult. I did not join the Church to witness the weakness and errors of man, but the strength, Love, and mercy of Christ. Have we forgotten about the numerous faithful priests and bishops who had no part in this evil? You will never find a perfect institution, free from corruption and sin, because man is not free from sin and corruption.
